Need a little boost to get you through the day? Emily shares some of her favourite mood boosters that get her back to center with positivity, creativity and a bit of self love!

Bi-carb Bath Bliss

Yes, you read that correctly! Bi-carb soda (also known as baking soda) is a fantastic way to relax your muscles. It’s hard to believe that an ingredient can raise cakes and release tension… But don’t take my word for it, give it a try!

For a bath, whilst the water is running, dissolve about half a cup of baking soda in the tub. I like to sprinkle a few drops of essential oils (try essence of peppermint, ylang ylang or lavender!) to add to the experience.

Don’t have time for a bath? Try 3-4 tablespoons of bi-carb in a big bowl or bucket with warm water and soak your feet for ten minutes. Pat dry, moisturize and get on with your day! (Essential oils are great to use here too).

Get Inspired

As a somewhat recovering/obsessed Sims fan, one of many life lessons I've acquired from the Sims game is that to get the most out of what you do, stay inspired!

When your primary needs are met, you are more likely to be more productive, positive and energetic. Although a hard combination to balance in daily practice (there are no cheats in real life!) remember to keep tabs on your sleep, hygiene, food, water, sleep, fun and social 'intake'. Personally, I find my sleep and food intake affect me the most. If I've had a great night sleep and regular nutritional meals, nothing can stop me! If I didn't sleep well the night before and use sugar/caffeine as a quick fix to sustain me throughout the day, my mood fluctuates and it is a struggle to maintain my emotional needs.

Have a Cuppa

One lump, or two? Having a cup of tea (or any hot drink) is a great way to refocus yourself if you're feeling overwhelmed or off balance. As you drink your tea, focus on the present and the sensations you feel whilst drinking. What does it taste like? Is it sweet or sour? Does it warm your mouth?

I use this booster daily to bring myself back to the present moment and to refocus on what is going on around me. If I am feeling very overwhelmed, it helps me to stop and become an observer (rather than a participator) of my overwhelming thoughts. I am then able to acknowledge them and get on with my day.

Shake it Off!

Although this one may be self explanatory... Shake it off! Take five minutes to blast your favourite feel good song and just let loose. Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" is a great place to start (especially for some awesome dance moves- the brief crab dance movement at 3:22 is pretty great!).

Getting your heart pumping and your limbs grooving is a fantastic way to relieve stress, bring back your creativity and have a good laugh!
