No One is Perfect

Everyone makes mistakes, misses the mark, falls under pressure. Unfortunately we are not invincible, despite all the will-power in the world or the deepest wish from a young child to be able to fly.

Most of the time, we have what it takes and our intentions are good... but our character has flaws. Even tiny cracks can't hold all the water in and will leak, eventually turning into rather large cracks that come gushingly undone under extreme pressure.

This is what makes us human. This is also why we are beautiful - because even though we can be frail in those moments, we also have the opportunity to rise above it all and conquer something new in our world. Yeah we don't get it right every time, but there will always be another opportunity to get it right.

We often don't even know how we will react under pressure until we find ourselves in it. And by then it is too late to build your character up to speed - this is why we must not be discouraged when we fail to be the overcomer. We must simply learn from the situation, build our character and know that we will be slightly more 'ready' or prepared for the next trial that comes our way.

It is sad when we get thrown into a life crisis that we are not ready for, or even worse, we have had plenty of opportunities to grow and prepare but we have ignored them and remained stuck in our ways. I think the goal should never be to reach a state of invincibility, but rather to always be willing to learn from life, always looking for that opportunity to evolve our character, so that we can be the overcomer when it counts.

Let pressure be a point of strength and character for us all! We don't need to look for the hot water either, we can just be still and quietly confident, ready for when it might come our way. And when it does, then our character will shine.

Heidi Lakin is a new mum to the beautiful Emera (born June 2012) and wife to best friend, Chad Lakin. Her story is not uncommon, having struggled for over 10 years with self-image issues that developed into eating disorders, depression, obsessive compulsive behaviour and anxiety. Her success in overcoming such perplexing battles is less common, which is why she founded Blussh - an online initiative that focuses on equipping women to find their sense of worth and committing to a life of freedom. Heidi has a vision to help women through such issues, but more importantly to help prevent poor body-image, self-doubt and everything that follows, in our young girls.
