I believe that in order to truly move forward, without hinderance... we first need to know how to look back.
My goal for December is to reflect on the past year with endearment while casting vision for my future. I have thought about how to make this time of reflection most valuable. This is my conclusion:
Remember the good times. Give your heart back to those positive moments that made you smile, cheer, jump up and down for joy. Then let them go, not to forget them, but just to let them be, so your hands are ready for more beautiful, crazy fun, wonderful moments to come.
Remember the not so good times, but don't dwell there. Accept them, after all you can't change the past, learn from them and again let them go.
Remember who you were at the beginning of the year and see how far you have come. Think about how you have changed for the better, or maybe if you need to focus on doing more of that in the new year.
Laugh at your mistakes, silly moments, shortcomings and the comical times. It is easier to learn, grow, move forward when you can laugh at yourself.
Laugh at your hardships. This may be really difficult to do, but if you can manage even just a simple smile then peace will come. As long as you are moving forward, time heals and everything will be ok. If you are going through something right now, or if this year was a series of tough times, this is your chance to prepare for a better year. Breathe, accept, let go and smile.
Contentment doesn't mean you don't want to move forward, it means you are humbly grateful while on the journey; be thankful. As you reflect on this year, think of all the things you are thankful for. One of my goals for the new year is to spend 5 minutes everyday doing this.
Write down the memories you want to always carry with you. Sometimes we forget things that might help us in the future. You never know when you might need to draw on the strength of a joyous occasion from your journey.
Write down who you are in this moment, so you can look back this time next year and see how you have grown. Write out your dreams, goals and aspirations. Write what you love about yourself and what you would like to change. Try to keep this really positive, as the alternative won't help you move forward.
Love yourself for who you were this year. Love yourself for who you are in this moment. Love yourself for who you aspire to be next year. Love the people who are helping you along. Love the people who taught you something. Love those who popped into your world to really challenge you for a season. Love the seasons, respect them for what they are and the lessons they brought.
If you have any other ideas for making the most of this season, before the new year begins please let us know in the comments! We are all about building a better tomorrow, equipping each other for a beautiful life. We can all help, and learn from each other. Xx
